Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts – Solar Cities Program

A seven-year nationwide program, Solar Cities brings together partners from across federal and local government, business and community. It aims to help Solar City communities save energy and introduce new energy-efficient technologies and power generation capabilities.

SenateSHJ worked with DEWHA to develop a community engagement strategy that promoted the program through an ‘umbrella story’. To allow for flexibility in local communication activities, we created guidelines and a communication toolkit for each Solar City community, as well as evaluation mechanisms to ensure they benefited from lessons learned. These were used to drive local launches and assist local committees to promote the Solar Cities initiative. We were also involved in Solar City launches across Australia.

Our strategy explained complex concepts (around solar energy, sustainability, energy efficiency etc.) in a very simple and memorable way, and ensured that all Solar City initiatives were communicated consistently throughout the Australian community.
